Did you know that Michigan has more ski resorts than any other state, with the exception of New York? Unbeknownst to much of the country, Michigan is actually chock full of great skiing. There are 38 different resorts scattered across the Great Lakes State, with plenty of fun, exciting terrain for you to explore and test yourself on.
Skiing in Michigan?
You may be skeptical of Michigan skiing, but let me tell you from experience that Michigan skiers are diehards. Skiing in Michigan is cold and can be expensive, but every weekend at all 38 of our ski resorts you will find a group of dedicated skiers out there having just as much fun as all those skiers out west. This is why Skis.com is proud to call Michigan our home state.
Take it from legendary Michigan skier Lou Batroi, who at 107-years old is still hitting the slopes. In this piece from the Traverse City Record-Eagle, he explains what he loves about Michigan skiing:
“It was a bit of a surprise, but I found that I could log as much vertical feet in a day here in Michigan as I could in the mountains where you spend a lot more time riding a lift,” he told me. “Here the lift ride is shorter, and you spend more time on the slopes. It may not be a mountain, but at the end of the day it all adds up.”
